Nonetheless, we enjoyed the trip once more, and were looking forward to it on our next trip to French Lick in October, to see the forest in Fall. There is quite a bit of rocking and rolling of the train, so beware sitting in the observation dome or the upstairs of the commuter coaches (whenever they reopen), as the ride could be very exciting. The train also usually offers drinks from the bar car, which was closed for this occasion. Usually, on the trip out into Hoosier National Forest, the train stops at the end, in a field, and their is some minor entertainment, including a ghost town paper set up. The railway exercised a lot of care to keep distance and clean everything. We did not have to worry about that with our July trip, as passengers were widely socially distanced around the car (one of the old Chicago commuter cars, on the lower level, as the upstairs was closed). We usually get first class or whatever the pricier tickets are, for a bit more room and privacy. But we welcome other things to do, and we are always happy to ride the French Lick Scenic railway. We go to French Lick 2 or 3 times a year, for the history and for the beautiful, extremely well restored and maintained old hotels - as well as for the French Lick Casino.
